A short film featuring Dom De Villiers of Tgthr Tgthr Surfboards.
My history with Dom goes back to being kids. We grew up in the same suburb, one road apart. I always knew Dom as the other kid who skated in the neighbourhood. From the early days of skating in the streets to sharing waves around the Cape Peninsula, Dom has been one of those characters in my life who has been there all the way.
At this point in our journey, we are closer than ever, tied together by a mutual respect for the natural environment and our craft. We are still neighbours to some degree - he builds boards 5-minutes drive from our workshop and I have the pleasure of collaborating with him on many of the boards he makes.
Dom’s focus and commitment to building eco-friendly boards is admirable. In an industry where every part seems to be toxic in some way, it’s epic to see someone push the narrative of building more eco-friendly surfcraft. If you haven’t seen his talents check out @tgthrtgthr_surfboards on Instagram.
When conceptualizing ‘The journal’ I had hoped that people would want to work together to showcase the creative bubble that surrounds our local surf scene. After my initial ‘Welcome to the Journal’ post, Teega Michel (the filmmaker and editor of this video), sent me a text with a link to a video that he made. Without any strings attached, he offered the video for me to use here. An openness to sharing that I couldn’t have imagined. Thank you Teega and crew for this amazing production and for your generosity in sharing it with the community.

A word from the creator:
“Since I met Dom, we’ve had this grand idea of shooting something to do with surfing up the West Coast.
So over the course of a year and a half, we slowly pieced together a project, until one day we both looked at each other and decided that now was the time to shoot.”
